3 Cases report of Methemogloblemia

Abstract
Three cases of methemoglobinemia treated at Presbyterian medical center Hospital are reported.
Case 1: a. 18W gm-,.premature infant was the first infant admitted to our new premature nursery. Infant gained well without complications until age of one month when he suddenly developed severe cyanosis, listlessness and poor sucking. Venous blood aggitated for 15 minutes turned chocolate brown color. Cyanosis disappeared and general condition improved 3 hours after IV methylene blue and ascorbic acid. New diapers, sheets and blankets marked with aniline dye had been supplied to the new nursery apd had been used on this infant since birth.
Diagnosis: Methemoglobinemia due to anilin dye absorbed thru the skin.
Case 2: 11 year old. female developed vomiting, weakness, upward gaze and marked cyanosis after taking A.P.C. for 5 days for URI. Venous blood shaken vigorous for 15 minutes turned_ chocolate brown color. Condition improved slowly after IV methylene blue and ascorbic acid. Diagnosis: Methemoglobinemia probably due to acetanilid in APC.
Case 3: Seventeen year old female took 60 DDS tablets in suicide attempt. She developed severe-cyanosis, dyspnea, vomiting and hematuria, and was admitted PMC hespital 3 days after ingestien of DDS. She impreved slowly after IV methylene blue and ascorbic acid and hyperbaric oxygen, and was discharged in good condition on 4 th hospital day.
Final diagnosis; Methemoglobinemia due to DDS.
